Greece expands relocation incentives and healthcare funding
Greece is implementing several social and regional development initiatives. A major relocation program is expanding to combat demographic decline in rural and border areas. Eligible households can receive up to €10,000 to move permanently to selected regions, including parts of Epirus and eight regional units such as Kastoria, Kilkis, and Drama. Notably, the new phase removes the requirement for applicants to have pre-existing employment in the destination area, and half of the funds may be provided as an advance before the move.
In the healthcare sector, the North Aegean region is investing over €10.7 million to upgrade six health centers and bolster EKAB services with new ambulances and rapid-response motorcycles. Additionally, a new labor ministry circular allows specific public health workers—including nurses, nursing assistants, and ambulance drivers—to qualify for retirement at age 62 under certain insurance conditions. To access this, workers must apply to their payroll service by January 6, 2027.
Furthermore, the South Aegean region has announced €2 million in funding for the University of the Aegean to procure modern IT and educational equipment, with a specific focus on accessibility for students with disabilities.
