Greece sees unstable weather with thunderstorms, hail and high temperatures

Forecasters warn that Greece will move from generally clear skies to a period of instability beginning on May 18‑19. Across most of the country, especially the northern and central regions, brief thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected, sometimes accompanied by hail and strong lightning. The National Meteorological Service notes wind gusts of 2‑4 Bft from the north, increasing to 4‑6 Bft in some coastal areas, and temperatures remaining in the 24‑27 °C range.

Localised flooding is possible where intense rain falls on mountainous terrain, and the Aegean islands may see scattered showers. Despite the unsettled conditions, daytime heat will stay high, contributing to a “summer‑like but highly unstable” atmosphere through the weekend.
