Greece extends deadline for public land purchase applications
The Greek Ministry of National Economy and Finance has extended the deadline for citizens to submit applications to purchase occupied public lands. The new deadline is set for September 11, 2027, and applies to all regions across the country.
This measure, established under Law 5024/2023, aims to allow citizens to resolve long-standing property issues. To qualify for the purchase, applicants must demonstrate continuous possession of the public property for at least 30 years with a title, or at least 40 years without a title. In the latter case, the property must serve as a primary residence, an auxiliary space, or be used for tourism, industrial, commercial, or agricultural activities. Additionally, the property must have been declared in E9 tax records for at least five years prior to the application.
Applications must be submitted electronically via Taxisnet. The process requires a 300 euro fee, which is offset against the purchase price or refunded if the application is rejected. While the requirement for an existing building has been removed, the purchase of properties containing unauthorized structures is prohibited.
