Greece extends mandatory bank transfer requirement for rents

The Governor of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), George Pitsilis, has granted a nine-month extension for the mandatory implementation of residential rent payments via bank transfers. This measure, originally scheduled to take effect on October 1, was postponed following a request from the Federation of Property Owners (OMIDA).

OMIDA cited several unresolved issues hindering the new regime, including the need to link bank account declarations to the Property Ownership and Management Registry. The federation is also seeking specific exemptions and protections, such as provisions for low rents, transactions involving individuals over 70, and protections for owners in cases where a tenant fails to make a bank payment despite being responsible for it.
