Greece announces supermarket profit caps and holiday food package

Greek Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos has announced several economic measures aimed at combating inflation and supporting households during the upcoming winter and holiday season. To address rising costs, the government will extend the existing profit margin cap on thousands of supermarket products through the end of the year. Additionally, a new holiday package of essential goods is being prepared in collaboration with the Independent Authority for Consumer Protection to ensure availability and price stability during Christmas and New Year.

The Minister emphasized the need for a productive transformation of the Greek economy, focusing on industry, manufacturing, innovation, and the primary sector to enhance competitiveness and national security. He also highlighted the strategic importance of Greece-US relations in sectors such as defense, energy, and investment.

On the regulatory front, Theodorikakos expressed support for creating a modern institutional framework for the licensing of technical professions, responding to requests from various chambers of commerce and professional associations. This move aims to recognize professional experience, combat unfair competition, and make technical trades more attractive to younger generations.
