Greece's July 24 deadline for 2026 tax returns

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) confirmed that 24 July 2026 is the final day for submitting the 2026 income‑tax return (form E1) in Greece. Taxpayers can correct mistakes through the myAADE portal without penalty until 15 July, after which the authority will begin extensive cross‑checking of returns from 25 July.

Penalties are applied on the tax difference: 10 % for a 5‑20 % gap, 25 % for a 20‑50 % gap and up to 50 % for discrepancies exceeding 50 % of the assessed tax. Fines may also reach €500 for minor errors. AADE has already processed 889,036 pre‑assessed returns covering 999,523 individuals, a rise of about 20 % on the previous year. Special attention is required for retroactive wages and pensions from 2024, which must be declared separately for the year they relate to. The filing deadline has been extended to 24 October 2026, while payment of any due tax with a 2 % discount must be made by 31 July.

Accountants have reported technical problems with the filing platforms and are urging a further extension.
