Greece faces ferry strike disruptions and major Thessaloniki road closure
A scheduled strike of ferry crews from July 2 to July 8 has led to uncertainty over sailing schedules at the Rafina port. Passengers are advised to contact agencies directly at the listed phone numbers for up‑to‑date information on routes and departures.
Starting at 23:00 on Friday 3 July, a 24‑hour traffic ban will be imposed on the eastern section of the Thessaloniki ring road between interchanges K7 (Eptapyrgio) and K8 (Triandria). Vehicles heading toward Kavala/Katerini must detour via Katsimidi Street, while traffic toward Halkidiki/Airport will be redirected through Anthes Street, with heavy‑vehicle drivers recommended to use the Monastiri‑Egnatia‑Karamanlis corridor. Drivers are urged to follow posted signage and speed limits.
Both measures are expected to affect local commuters and travelers during the busy summer period.
