Greece faces heightened fire risk as Meltemi winds persist

Meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis warned that the Meltemi winds will remain active over the Aegean, bringing atmospheric instability across mainland Greece. Afternoon thunderstorms, hail and strong gusts are expected in regions such as Attica, Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Epirus and the western mainland, with temperatures reaching 33‑37 °C in the south‑west.

The continued wind activity raises the danger of wildfires, especially in the Attica area and other densely populated zones. Residents are advised to stay alert for sudden showers, lightning and possible local flooding while taking precautions against fire ignition.

Overall weather conditions will feature mostly sunny skies in many parts of the country, with isolated cloud development and brief rain showers in mountainous areas during the late afternoon.
