Greece faces political instability and diplomatic tensions

Greece is facing internal political tensions regarding government stability and foreign policy. Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis addressed concerns regarding Greece-Turkey relations, stating there are no current indications of diplomatic or military incidents. Marinakis emphasized the importance of a stable government to manage crises, citing the Evros border as an example, and noted that while Greece seeks dialogue and good neighborly relations, it will not compromise on its “red lines.” He identified the primary dispute with Turkey as the delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the continental shelf, which must be resolved through international law.

Simultaneously, the Greek political landscape is experiencing a rise in independent Members of Parliament. Following various departures from major parties such as SYRIZA and New Left, 51 independent MPs currently hold seats. This fragmentation of the political order has raised concerns about the lack of a cohesive independent opposition, which some analysts suggest could impact voter turnout and democratic functionality.
