Greece faces technical job shortages despite high wages

Technical professions and industrial roles in Greece are facing severe personnel shortages despite offering some of the highest wages in recent years. Market experts identify two primary reasons for this trend: the high level of responsibility and specialization required for these demanding roles, and a persistent social stigma that views manual or technical labor as a secondary career choice.

Konstantinos Kesentes, President of the SEV Technical Academy, suggests that technical professions require a ‘rebranding’ to attract younger generations. As artificial intelligence and digitalization advance, technical skills are expected to become increasingly sophisticated and highly sought after.

Discussions held during the EfVET Board of Directors meeting in Athens emphasized the necessity of connecting industry with education. Experts highlighted the importance of creating an ecosystem that allows for the real-time development of educational programs aligned with market needs, alongside a strong focus on lifelong learning.
