Greece focuses on tourism quality and economic competitiveness

Greek tourism is entering a new development phase that prioritizes experience quality and value creation over mere increases in visitor numbers. According to an INSETE study, the sector remains a vital pillar of the Greek economy, contributing 13% to the GDP.

Key challenges identified for the sector include taxation, infrastructure needs, climate change, and digital transformation. The goal is to achieve sustainable and balanced growth that distributes benefits more effectively to local communities.

In a separate discussion involving European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas and the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA), leaders emphasized the need to convert economic momentum into stronger businesses. Discussions focused on modernizing transport infrastructure, simplifying bureaucratic procedures, and improving access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises to enhance Greece's role as an international transport hub.
