Pizza Fan employees protest following massive tax evasion investigation

Approximately 2,500 employees of the Pizza Fan chain have been left without work and income following the sudden closure of its 110 stores. The closures occurred after authorities seized the company's telephone center and software, alleging they were tools used in a large-scale tax evasion scheme. Investigations suggest the company used specialized software to hide significant portions of its turnover, with estimates of evaded taxes rising from 25 million to 35 million euros.

Employees, including delivery drivers, cooks, and shop staff, held protests outside the company's headquarters in Chalandri, demanding clarity on unpaid wages, social security contributions, and severance pay. Many workers reported being informed of the closures via social media and news outlets rather than through official company channels.

The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the PASOK party have called for government intervention to ensure workers' rights are protected. GSEE is demanding the immediate full payment of all wages and contributions, emphasizing that the legal responsibility for the company's actions lies with the management and cannot be transferred to the staff. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labor has stated that all employment contracts remain active, meaning the employer is legally obligated to fulfill wage and insurance duties.
