Greece heating costs rise as households shift to electric alternatives
Greek households are facing significant increases in heating costs this winter, leading many to shift toward electricity-based heating solutions. According to reports, natural gas prices have surged by 55%, electricity has risen by 15%, and heating oil remains 38% more expensive than last year, despite existing support measures.
To manage these rising expenses, experts suggest evaluating the energy efficiency of different heating methods. While standard electric radiators are considered inefficient with a 1:1 energy ratio, air conditioning units offer better efficiency (1:2 to 1:3), and heat pumps provide the highest performance (up to 1:4).
Consumers are advised to conduct thorough market research regarding electricity providers, paying close attention to fixed charges and regulated fees in contracts. While heat pumps and efficient air conditioners require higher initial capital investment, they offer lower long-term operating costs. Experts also recommend looking into available subsidy programs to help offset installation expenses.
