Greece is experiencing a persistent heatwave with temperatures reaching extreme levels across much of the country. On Monday, August 24, 118 meteorological stations recorded temperatures exceeding 37 degrees Celsius, with some areas in the Peloponnese surpassing 41 degrees Celsius.

Forecasts for Tuesday and Wednesday indicate continued high temperatures, with many mainland regions expected to reach between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius. Argos is projected to hit 40 degrees Celsius. While a temporary cooling is expected towards the end of the week, around August 28-29, meteorologists warn that a new heat episode may follow in early September.

In the Aegean, strong northerly winds, known as meltemia, are expected, with speeds potentially reaching 7 Beaufort in some areas. While most of the country will remain sunny, localized cloud cover and showers or thunderstorms are possible in mountainous regions of the mainland.

Due to the combination of high heat, low humidity, and strong winds, Civil Protection has issued warnings regarding increased fire risks, particularly in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Authorities advise citizens, especially vulnerable groups, to avoid prolonged sun exposure and maintain hydration.
