Greece Highway Code: Fines for illegal parking space reservation

Under the Greek Highway Code (KOK), the unauthorized reservation of parking spaces in front of private residences or businesses is strictly prohibited. Individuals attempting to claim public road space as an extension of their property by placing objects such as chairs, flowerpots, coffee tables, or motorcycles on the pavement face significant legal consequences.

According to Article 52 of the Highway Code, the temporary or permanent occupation of a portion of the roadway with installations or obstacles is forbidden, particularly when such actions obstruct traffic, prevent legal parking, or limit visibility for other road users. Violations of these regulations can result in substantial fines, with certain infractions reaching up to 1,500 euros.
