Greece hit by express storm bringing heavy rain, hail and strong winds

Meteorologists warn that an express storm will sweep across Greece over the next 24‑48 hours, producing intense but brief rain showers, hail, and a sharp temperature drop below 30 °C. The most severe conditions are forecast for the mountainous areas of Central Greece, Epirus, Eastern Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly, with wind gusts reaching 7 beaufort on the Aegean Sea.

Rainfall peaks are expected in central regions, with up to 63 mm recorded in Narthaki, Larissa, and similar amounts in nearby districts. Lightning activity is forecast to be unusually high, with about 30,000 strikes reported during the event. On Saturday the storm will shift southward, bringing strong northern winds of 5‑6 beaufort and isolated thunderstorms, while temperatures will hover around the 30 °C mark.

Conditions are projected to improve from Sunday onward, with the atmosphere stabilising, sunshine returning and temperatures rising back to typical summer levels across the country.
