Greece’s Digital Transformation Receives International Recognition

International assessments from the OECD and the European Commission highlight Greece’s rapid digital transformation. The OECD’s Digital Government Outlook 2026 awards the country a score of 0.71, surpassing the 0.70 average and out‑performing nations such as Japan, Italy, Canada and the Netherlands. The EU Digital Decade report notes that Greece has implemented 83 % of the Commission’s recommendations, with public digital services reaching 79.4 % of citizens and 86 % of businesses.

Infrastructure progress is evident: 5G coverage now reaches 99.5 % of the population, fiber‑to‑the‑premises networks cover 59.8 % of households, and the nation is being positioned as a digital hub for Southeast Europe through new submarine cables and data‑centre investments. The health‑tech sector scores a 94 % digital‑health index, well above the EU average of 87. Key projects include the AI Factory Pharos, the digital assistant mAigov, and the open‑data portal data.gov.gr. The reports also flag a skills gap, with only 51 % of Greeks aged 16‑74 possessing basic digital competencies versus the EU’s 60.4 % average.
