Greece holds commemorative events in Chania and Mytilene

Various commemorative events were held in Greece to honor historical figures and refugee heritage. In Chania, the Kissamos Municipality and the Musagores Association organized a ceremony in Elafonisi to honor those who fell at Elafonisi. The event included religious services at the Holy Church of Saint Irene and a ceremony at the Cretan Monument, featuring wreath-laying and speeches.

In Mytilene, descendants of Pergamene refugees gathered to observe the traditional festival marking the finding of the icon of Saint George in Pergamum. This custom, brought to Lesvos following the 1922 Asia Minor Catastrophe, included a memorial service for those lost during the catastrophe. The event also saw the election of the first Board of Directors for the Saint Agios Antipis Pergamene Association of Lesvos.
