Greece holds memorial services for Holocaust victims
Various memorial services were held across Greece on October 25, 2026, to honor victims of Nazi atrocities during World War II.
In Dombreina, ceremonies were conducted to commemorate the victims from the villages of Dombreina, Thissavi, and Chostia, who were killed by Nazi occupation forces in August 1943. The event included a memorial service and the laying of wreaths at the Hero Monument near the Church of Agios Nikolaos. Attendees included the Mayor of Thebes, Giorgos Anastasiou, local Members of Parliament, and representatives from the National Council for the Claim of War Reparations.
In Mesovouno, local residents and officials marked the 85th anniversary of the massacre that occurred on October 23, 1941. Organized by the Municipality of Eordaia and the Community of Mesovouno, the program featured a Divine Liturgy and a memorial service at the Fallen Monument. The ceremonies honored the 157 men executed by German forces in 1941, as well as the 119 women and children and three Soviet soldiers killed during subsequent massacres in April 1944.
