Greece hosts 20th European Night Without Accidents

The Panos Mylonas Road Safety Institute is organizing the 20th annual ‘European Night Without Accidents’ on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The nationwide initiative aims to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, particularly among younger drivers.

A central component of the campaign is the designation of a ‘designated driver’ for social groups. This individual commits to consuming no alcohol and wears a special bracelet to signify their role. Volunteers offer voluntary alcohol tests to these drivers to confirm their sobriety before they transport their companions home safely.

The campaign follows a successful previous year in which no fatal traffic accidents were recorded in Greece on the day of the event. Local participation includes the Hellenic Red Cross, driving instructors, and traffic police departments, such as the Chios Traffic Department, which supports local activities in coastal areas.
