Greece hosts historical commemorations in Chania and Xanthi

Various cultural and historical commemorations are scheduled across Greece. In Chania, a two-day conference titled ‘Sternes Akrotiri Through the Passage of Time’ will be held on October 3 and 4, 2026, at the Sternes Municipal School. The event, dedicated to the memory of Emmanouil Kriaras and Antonios Manitakis, will feature presentations from historians, archaeologists, and architects regarding the region's history, from the Venetian period and various revolutions to the Battle of Crete.

In Xanthi, a three-day series of events will take place from October 2 to October 4 to celebrate the 107th anniversary of the city's liberation. The program includes historical reenactments of the Greek Army's 1919 march, religious ceremonies, wreath-laying, concerts, and a large student and military parade. The celebrations aim to connect younger generations with the city's historical turning point through the ‘Steps of Liberation’ initiative.
