The Special Secretariat for Hydraulic Works and Buildings of the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is implementing 50 major hydraulic and irrigation projects across the country, with a total budget of approximately 1.2 billion euros. The program includes the construction of dams, reservoirs, water transport systems, irrigation networks, and flood protection interventions.
Key regional developments include:
In Crete, the Myrtos-Bramiana pipeline and the new Myrtos Dam aim to irrigate approximately 35,380 hectares of farmland. In the Peloponnese, the construction of the Asopos Dam in Corinth is underway, intended to cover 50,000 hectares, while water distribution projects from the Anavlos dam to Argolida exceed 100 million euros to support over 100,000 hectares.
In Attica, approximately 200 million euros are being allocated to flood protection, including the completion of the Eschatia stream and interventions in the Acharnes and Rafina streams. In Thessaly, investments exceeding 45 million euros focus on water storage and transport, including the construction of reservoirs in Agiokampou and Pournari Ambelakia, alongside the modernization of existing irrigation networks.
