Greece implements 300-euro monthly payment for public employees

Under Law 5313/2026, thousands of Greek public employees will receive a monthly amount of 300 euros intended to smooth out personal salary differences. This measure applies to staff within the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Development, the Ministry of Digital Governance, and various independent authorities.

The 300-euro amount is classified as regular, pensionable income subject to social security contributions, which may improve retirement conditions. However, the payment is not necessarily a direct salary increase for everyone. Instead, it is used to offset existing personal salary differences recorded as of June 30, 2026.

According to a circular from the General Accounting Office of the State, the mechanism works through compensation: if an employee's existing personal difference is less than or equal to 300 euros, the new amount will absorb it, potentially resulting in a net increase in gross pay. If the existing difference exceeds 300 euros, the new amount will reduce that difference, with the remainder continuing to be paid as a personal difference. The adjustments are retroactive to July 1, 2026.
