Greece implements mass tourism curbs amid rising Serbian investment
Greece has introduced a program to curb mass tourism at popular destinations following reports from the central bank indicating nearly 38 million visitors in 2025.
Data from the Office of Economic and Trade Affairs in Belgrade shows a significant rise in Serbian tourism. Last year, over 800,000 Serbian tourists visited Greece, representing a 20 percent increase compared to 2024. These visitors accounted for approximately 2.79 million overnight stays, with an average spending of 309.6 euros per visit.
Beyond tourism, Serbian investment in Greece reached 28 million euros in 2025, largely directed toward real estate acquisitions. Popular destinations for Serbian travelers include Northern Greece, specifically Halkidiki, as well as Preveza and Corfu. Agricultural and food products continue to drive bilateral trade, comprising roughly 50 percent of total commerce between the two nations.
