Greece implements metro expansion, healthcare reforms, and tourism subsidies
Greece is implementing several significant administrative and infrastructure updates. The Thessaloniki Metro is entering its final stages for the Kalamaria expansion, a 4.8-kilometer project adding five new stations: Nomarchia, Kalamaria, Aretsou, Nea Krini, and Mikra. Following technical inspections and certification, commercial operation is targeted for August 2026.
In healthcare, EOPYY will mandate the electronic entry of diagnostic test results into a Digital Repository starting September 1, 2026. Announced by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, this reform requires both public and private providers to upload results to receive reimbursement. The initial phase focuses on biological materials, with the goal of centralizing patient history in the National Health Record.
Additionally, the ‘Tourism for All 2026-2027’ program is accepting applications until August 21, 2026. The program features expanded income limits for single, married, and large families, including an extra 50 euro subsidy per child for families with four or more children. It also introduces coverage for persons with disabilities and families with children with disabilities.
