Greece to implement myDiesel digital system for agricultural fuel

Starting November 1, the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) will launch the myDiesel digital system in Greece. This new mechanism allows professional farmers to receive an immediate tax exemption on agricultural diesel at the pump, rather than waiting for a refund after purchase.

The total tax relief amounts to 50.84 cents per liter, comprising a 41-cent Special Consumption Tax (EFC) and 9.84 cents in associated VAT. To access this, farmers must use the myAADE digital portal to generate a QR code coupon, which gas station operators will scan to apply the discount in real-time.

While the system aims to simplify the process, fuel station owners, particularly in regions like Karditsa, have expressed concerns regarding liquidity and technology barriers. Operators worry about the financial burden of covering the tax difference upfront while waiting for state reimbursements, and they noted that many older farmers may struggle with the requirement to use smartphones and digital applications.
