Greece implements new olive production tracking requirements
Greek olive producers are facing new regulatory requirements for documenting harvests under the Olive Production Registry. According to ministerial decision 77979/2025, documentation issued by olive mills and table olive processing companies must include four essential pieces of information: the producer's full name and tax ID, the olive variety, the unique thirteen-digit code of the olive grove registered in the Olive Production Registry, and the specific quantity of fruit corresponding to each agricultural plot.
This new system aims to create a comprehensive monitoring framework to cross-reference data and limit production discrepancies. Producers are advised to verify that all details are accurately recorded to ensure proper documentation for future harvest declarations. To identify their specific plot codes, producers can contact the relevant Directorates of Agricultural Economy and Veterinary Services.
In addition to regulatory compliance, experts emphasize that harvest timing and transport speed are critical to maintaining olive oil quality. Delays in transporting fruit to mills, particularly when stored in sacks under high temperature or humidity, can lead to alterations that degrade the final product's quality and commercial value.
