Greece implements new salary scale for military and security forces
A new salary scale for approximately 160,000 personnel in the Greek Armed Forces and Security Forces is impacting both current earnings and future pension calculations. The changes affect members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Fire Service, and Coast Guard.
For those retiring in 2026, the pensionable salary is calculated based on the average monthly gross earnings from 2002 to 2026. Because the new salary increases are now included in this average, personnel retiring in 2026 may secure higher pensions than those who retired in 2025, even with identical years of service.
Monthly salary increases vary by category. In the Armed Forces, Category A personnel may see increases up to 280 euros, Category B up to 130 euros, and Category C up to 103 euros. For Security Forces, including the Police and Fire Service, the average increase is approximately 111 euros per month, ranging from 48 euros at lower ranks to 150 euros at higher ranks.
