Greece implements special registry rules for Daniel disaster victims
The Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food has issued a special regulation to assist farmers and livestock producers affected by the Daniel natural disaster. Signed by Minister Margaritis Schoinas, the decision allows for the exceptional registration of these individuals in the Registry of Farmers and Agricultural Holdings (MAAE) as ‘professional farmers’ for the years 2024 and 2025.
The measure addresses practical issues caused by the disaster's impact on productive activities. It specifically applies to farmers who declared ‘non-cultivable areas due to natural disasters’ in their Single Application for Aid, including plots in Lake Karla or areas flooded with debris. Additionally, livestock producers who lost part or all of their livestock due to Daniel are covered, provided they declared ‘force majeure’ in their 2024 or 2025 Single Application.
This administrative adjustment ensures that the loss of production due to the disaster does not prevent producers from being recognized as professional farmers. The Ministry continues to address outstanding issues related to the consequences of Daniel to facilitate recovery for affected producers.
