Greece imposes 34.6 million euros in labor law fines

Between January and August 2026, Greek authorities imposed 34.6 million euros in fines on businesses and employers for labor law violations. Out of the total penalties, 29 million euros were related to employment relationship violations, while 9.5 million euros were issued for undeclared work.

A significant portion of the sanctions, totaling nearly 10 million euros, was linked to the digital work card system. Inspections revealed inconsistent implementation of the card, particularly within the tourism and catering sectors. The digital card is designed to record work start and end times, actual working hours, and overtime in real time.

Other recorded violations included 1,198 cases of non-payment of wages, allowances, and holiday pay, resulting in 3 million euros in fines. Additionally, 829 violations regarding the failure to record working hours led to 882,540 euros in penalties, and 745 cases of incomplete digital time tracking resulted in 1.2 million euros in fines.
