Greece imposes fines for slow driving on highways
Under Greece’s Road Traffic Code, drivers who travel at an "unusual slowness" on motorways or other high‑speed roads can be fined €30. Article 23 obliges motorists not to impede the smooth flow of traffic without a justified reason, and the fine applies when authorities determine the behavior violates this rule.
Acceptable reasons for reduced speed include poor road surface, vehicle condition or overload, adverse weather, heavy traffic, or other necessary circumstances. Article 24 paragraph 9 also sets a €30 fine for driving below the minimum (blue‑sign) speed limit, and vehicles that cannot exceed 70 km/h are prohibited from using these roads.
