Greece imposes temporary road closures and traffic restrictions in July

On Wednesday, 8 July, a full closure of the Ionian highway between the Amfilochia and Arta interchanges will be in effect from 07:00 to 19:00 as part of scheduled maintenance. Vehicles heading to Ioannina will be diverted onto the old Antirrio‑Ioannina national road, with re‑entry to the motorway at the Arta interchange. The road authority says the work may finish early if possible and temporary signage will guide drivers.

In Athens, the city centre traffic‑restriction scheme known as the “Ring” remains in force until 24 July. The limits apply on weekdays (Monday‑Thursday 07:00‑20:00, Friday 07:00‑15:00) and are lifted on weekends and public holidays. Exemptions cover electric, hybrid, CNG/LNG vehicles and Euro 6 cars that meet CO₂ emission thresholds (under 120 g/km for pre‑2020 models, under 145 g/km for 2021‑onwards). Drivers are advised to verify exemption status via the gov.gr platform.
