Greece inaugurates new hospital emergency department and AI medical monitoring system

The Andreas Syngros Hospital for Aphrodisiac and Dermatological Diseases has inaugurated a new Emergency Department (ED) following a renovation project costing 1,175,000 euros. Funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund, the new facility offers four times the space of the previous department and includes modern equipment, a renovated examination area, and a patient waiting room. The department utilizes a digital triage and tracking system to prioritize patients based on medical needs. Since the beginning of 2026, the ED has handled over 60,000 visits.

Separately, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis introduced 'Med Watch,' an AI-based system designed to monitor private medical practices by scanning online information. The system aims to identify illegal medical practices, such as unauthorized advertisements or procedures performed by doctors without the required specialties. Initial scans of 8,500 facilities in Attica resulted in 5,069 findings and 231 cases flagged for investigation. While the ministry emphasizes data privacy and the need for further verification, critics note that the system does not automatically alert patients to potential risks.
