Greece increases heating allowance to a maximum of 1,560 euros

Greece has significantly expanded its heating subsidy program for the 2026-2027 winter period. The maximum heating allowance has risen from 350 euros in 2019 to a base maximum of 1,040 euros in 2026. In regions with high heating needs due to climatic conditions, the maximum amount can reach 1,560 euros.

This represents a 30% increase in subsidy amounts compared to the previous year. The minimum allowance has also increased from 80 euros in 2019 to 130 euros for the upcoming period.

In addition to direct subsidies, a 40-cent per liter discount on heating oil will be implemented through a joint intervention by the state and refineries. This measure aims to lower purchase prices for all consumers. The heating assistance is not limited to heating oil; it also covers electricity, natural gas, LPG, firewood, pellets, and district heating, depending on specific eligibility criteria.
