Greece introduces new framework for Foreign Direct Investment
The Greek Ministry of Development is introducing a new legislative framework to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and boost the country's productive transformation. The new regime targets investment projects with costs between €10 million and €50 million, offering incentives such as tax exemptions, fast-track licensing within two months, and loan guarantees through the Hellenic Development Bank for SMEs.
Priority sectors for these investments include manufacturing, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, defense industry, aerospace, and logistics. The goal is to direct foreign capital toward high-value-added activities that enhance productivity, innovation, and competitiveness while creating high-quality jobs.
Additionally, a joint ministerial decision has increased the total incentives for 'Strategic Investments' to approximately €82 million for 2026. This includes a rise in tax exemptions to €31.24 million and grants to €50.74 million, up from previous projections. The fiscal impact of these incentives will be distributed across the coming years through 2030.
