Greece integrates military hospitals into national health procurement system

From 1 July 2026, Greece’s military hospitals and the National Imaging and Medical Technology Center (NIMTS) will procure medicines through the electronic platform of the National Central Health Procurement Authority (EKAPY). More than 100 orders have already been submitted.

The reform, introduced by Deputy Defence Minister Thanasis Davakis, aims to secure discounts, refunds and other benefits that were previously unavailable to the armed forces, reduce payment delays and free up staff previously devoted to managing large‑scale orders. Law 5302/26, enacted on 15 May 2026, incorporated the military health facilities into EKAPY’s institutional framework, with full system integration scheduled by 30 June 2026.
