Inspectors are targeting hospitality businesses such as taverns, restaurants, beach bars, and accommodation providers, focusing on the proper issuance of receipts and the accuracy of POS transactions.

This operational plan faces significant disruption as the Panhellenic Federation of Employees in Public Financial Services (POE-DOU) has declared a ten-day strike-abstention from preventive inspections, effective from August 17 to August 26. Tax officials are protesting against understaffing, inadequate working conditions, unpaid overtime, and insufficient technical infrastructure. The strike threatens to leave the market largely unmonitored during one of the busiest periods of the summer season.

Public reports of tax violations have surged, with over 320,000 complaints filed via digital platforms like ‘Appodixi’. Meanwhile, authorities have also warned tourists of rising fraud, including digital scams involving non-existent luxury villas and inflated taxi fares in major hubs like Athens.
