Greece to launch FinStart financial literacy program for students

The Greek Ministry of Education is launching ‘FinStart: Financial Skills for Life’, a new financial literacy program scheduled to begin in the 2026-2027 school year. With a total budget of 4 million euros, the initiative aims to provide approximately 40,000 primary and secondary school students with practical economic knowledge.

The curriculum focuses on essential life skills, including money management, savings, and personal or family budgeting. A significant portion of the program is dedicated to the digital economy, teaching students how to navigate electronic transactions, digital payments, and how to recognize online scams and fraudulent practices.

The program was discussed during a Greek Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Alongside the educational rollout, the government reviewed progress on the Recovery and Resilience Facility, regional development strategies, and initiatives to reduce the cost of living through price reductions on various consumer goods.
