Greece introduces ‘Healthy Kids’ app to combat childhood obesity

Greece is introducing a new digital tool called ‘Healthy Kids’ to combat childhood obesity, according to Deputy Health Minister Eirini Agapidakis. Speaking before the Parliament, Agapidakis presented the institutional framework for the application, which aims to provide families with scientifically backed nutritional guidance and support for healthy habits.

The app is designed to help parents monitor indicators such as breakfast consumption, water intake, and the reduction of sugary soft drinks, alongside promoting physical activity. Agapidakis emphasized that the tool is intended for preventative support rather than medical diagnosis or treatment, noting that families with serious dietary disorders should still consult physicians.

This initiative marks the first time the Ministry of Health is offering free access to nutritional counseling through such a digital platform. The application is intended to assist in the national effort to address obesity rates, which Agapidakis noted have remained high in Greece for several decades.
