Greece Introduces New Cruise Disembarkation Fees for Santorini and Mykonos

The Greek government has begun charging cruise passengers a per‑person fee when they disembark at Greek ports. Between 1 June and 30 September 2026, visitors to Santorini and Mykonos must pay €20 per person, while other ports charge €5 per person. Outside the peak summer months the fees drop to €12 for Santorini/Mykonos and €3 for other ports, with further reductions in the low season.

The fee is part of Greece’s sustainable tourism programme aimed at curbing overtourism on its busiest islands. Cruise operators, such as TUI Cruises, will automatically add the charge to a passenger’s onboard account and remit it to the Greek authorities. The levy applies to all passengers, regardless of age, for both individual shore excursions and the final departure at the end of a cruise.

Travel experts warn that the new cost should make travellers reconsider brief, crowded stop‑overs on the popular islands, which can see thousands of cruise guests arriving simultaneously.
