Greece introduces new occupational insurance and pension reform bill
The Greek Parliament is voting on a new bill designed to strengthen the second pillar of social security by expanding occupational insurance. The reform aims to increase future income for workers, broaden participation for employees and the self-employed, and create new savings mechanisms to support the national economy.
Labor Minister Niki Keramei stated that the new framework provides benefits for the insured, businesses, and the economy by facilitating access to supplementary pension income. Key features include the portability of secured rights, increased investment transparency, and the ability to provide additional insurance coverage. For businesses, occupational insurance can serve as an employer benefit to assist in attracting and retaining staff.
Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security Anna Efthymiou emphasized that the bill is fully aligned with EU law and was developed through extensive dialogue with social partners, incorporating over 90% of their proposals. The reform seeks to create a more flexible, reliable, and tax-attractive framework to enhance the resilience of the insurance system.
