Greece introduces new tax legislation for professionals and families
A new tax bill in Greece introduces significant changes affecting sole proprietorships, freelancers, families, and property owners. Key provisions include a 50% reduction in the minimum deemed income for professionals based in settlements with up to 2,000 inhabitants, and up to 2,200 inhabitants in Western Macedonia.
The legislation also targets specific groups such as taxi operators and professional farmers. For families with three or more children, a zero tax rate is proposed for the first two income brackets up to €20,000. Additionally, the bill increases the exemption limit for donations to €6,000 annually for certain workers starting in 2026.
Other economic measures include accelerating equipment depreciation from ten years to six years starting in 2027 and reducing the employer contribution for unemployment from 1.20% to 0.70% effective April 1, 2027. Implementation timelines vary, with some measures applying to 2026 income for 2027 filings, while others take effect in the 2027 tax year.
