Greece introduces tax penalty discounts and digital payment deductions

Greek taxpayers can benefit from new tax regulations regarding penalty reductions and income tax deductions. Under Article 75 of the Tax Procedure Code, individuals and small businesses can receive discounts of 25% to 50% on penalties resulting from tax audits, provided they accept the primary tax liability within specific timeframes. The highest discount of 50% is available if the taxpayer accepts the audit findings at the initial stage, before the assessment is finalized.

Other stages of the process offer reduced discounts of 40%, 30%, or 25% depending on the progress of the audit and whether the taxpayer has already filed an administrative appeal. The process is largely digitized and can be managed through the myAADE platform provided by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue.

Additionally, for the 2026 tax year, taxpayers can reduce their taxable income by 30% for specific high-risk service categories, such as plumbing, electrical work, legal services, and taxi transport, provided payments are made via digital means like cards or the IRIS system. This deduction is capped at an annual limit of 5,000 euros.
