Greece investigates infant death in Kypseli amid child abuse concerns
Authorities in Greece are investigating a high-profile case involving the death of an infant in Kypseli. Three suspects have been remanded in custody on drug trafficking charges. A couple involved in the case is scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday, facing charges of intentional homicide of a family member by complicity. The defendants are expected to challenge forensic findings that attribute the infant's death to criminal action.
This case follows other major incidents of child neglect and abuse that have impacted Greek society, including the 2022 Kolonos case involving the systematic sexual exploitation of a 12-year-old girl. In that instance, 19 defendants were referred to the Court of Appeals following initial convictions. Other reported incidents include severe neglect in Agios Panteleimonas, where children lived in unsanitary conditions. Recent data from the first eight months of 2025 indicates a high frequency of child neglect, with approximately six arrests per day being recorded.
