Greece investigates misleading video regarding unaccompanied minors
The Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum has denounced a circulating video featuring allegedly unaccompanied minor migrants as ‘absolutely misleading’. The Ministry clarified that the facility shown in the footage is not under its jurisdiction, nor is it a facility for hosting unaccompanied minors, which are exclusively managed by the Ministry.
According to official statements, the video depicts a facility belonging to a Spanish NGO that is neither registered with the Ministry’s Registry of Organizations nor funded by Greek taxpayers. The Ministry further noted that the footage appears to show adult migrants using a facility intended for minors to spread false messages regarding Greece’s handling of unaccompanied minors.
In response, Minister of Migration and Asylum Thanos Pleuris will refer the material to the Prosecutor's Office to investigate potential criminal offenses by the creators and any involved individuals. The Ministry also emphasized that medical examinations are now implemented in Greece to certify age, ensuring that no adults can be hosted in facilities designated for minors.
