Greece investigation into substances administered to singer Giorgos Mazonakis
New details have emerged regarding the death of popular singer Giorgos Mazonakis and the substances administered to him by a 56-year-old doctor. Investigations suggest a sequence of events involving the administration of midazolam, followed by its antidote, and finally the powerful sedative propofol.
Reports indicate that the doctor may have administered the midazolam antidote not to stabilize the patient, but to ensure he could proceed with the intended treatment involving propofol. During the procedure, the singer reportedly experienced dizziness, weakness, and unexplained agitation, alongside complications with his veins.
The doctor stated that the singer requested sleep during the treatment. However, experts note that midazolam, a mild anesthetic, can sometimes cause hyper-excitability rather than sedation. The timeline shows an alarm was raised at 15:22 following complications with the singer's arm and persistent difficulty in accessing veins.
