Greece commits €300 million to research infrastructure, creates 20,000 high‑skill jobs

The Greek government, represented by Deputy Minister of Development St Stavros Kalafatis, announced that more than €300 million has been allocated to upgrade research facilities and equipment across the country. The funding is intended to strengthen the national innovation ecosystem and to create about 20,000 new specialised jobs.

The investment marks a roughly 70 % increase in research and innovation spending since 2018 and is part of a broader shift toward a knowledge‑based economy and the AI industrial revolution. Greece has also forged partnerships with global tech leaders such as OpenAI, Mistral AI, Microsoft and Google to boost the European technology stack. The plan includes building a unified national network of technological infrastructures, guided by the EU AI Act to ensure “human‑centred innovation”.

The strategy highlights Greece’s geographic advantage in Southeast Europe, positioning the country as a secure and dynamic hub for data centres and start‑ups while aiming to curb brain‑drain and attract further foreign investment.
