High wildfire risk warned for many Greek regions on July 21, 2026

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection issued a daily fire‑risk map for Greece that predicts a high (category 3) danger of wildfires on Tuesday 21 July 2026, with very high (category 4) and extreme (category 5) alerts in several areas. Regions placed under high alert include Attica, the islands of the Ionian and Aegean seas, Central Greece, Thessaly, Central Macedonia, the Peloponnese, Crete and many prefectures such as Boeotia, Evia, Phthiotis, Magnesia, Argolis, Corinthia, Laconia, Ioannina, Karditsa, Thessaloniki, Kilkis, Kozani and others. Authorities have put emergency services, fire brigades, the police, the army and local volunteers on heightened readiness, imposed traffic bans on forest roads, prohibited open‑flame activities such as barbecues, metalworking and smoking of cigarettes, and reminded citizens to avoid discarding lit materials. The public is urged to report any fire immediately by calling 199. The measures aim to protect lives, property and the natural environment during the peak of the summer fire season.
