Greece issues high wildfire risk warning for September 17

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has issued a high wildfire risk warning (category 3) for several regions in Greece for Thursday, September 17.

High-risk areas include Mytilene, Skyros, Chios, Psara, Samos, Ikaria, parts of the Cyclades, Rethymno, Heraklion, Lasithi, Attica, and Evia. The daily risk map is part of the ‘Iolaos 2’ emergency response plan, designed to coordinate civil protection agencies and increase public awareness to prevent forest fires.

Authorities advise citizens to avoid outdoor hot work, refrain from barbecuing in forested areas, and keep flammable materials away from homes. In the event of a fire, citizens are urged to contact the Fire Service immediately via 199 or 112.
