Greece issues high wildfire risk warnings and forest travel bans for June 25‑26, 2026

On 25 June 2026 the Greek General Secretariat for Civil Protection released its daily fire‑risk map, indicating a high (category 3) wildfire danger for many parts of the country, including Attica, Argolis, several islands and regions in Central Greece.

The following day, 26 June 2026, authorities in the Evros region prohibited movement, staying and vehicle access in forest areas of the Alexandroupoli and Soufli districts from 08:00 to 22:00. The order, issued by the Evros Deputy Governor, aims to prevent fires and carries a fine of €300 for violations. Citizens are urged to avoid activities that could spark fires, such as open‑flame grilling, smoking, use of spark‑producing equipment, and to report any fire immediately to the fire service (dial 199). The restrictions remain in effect until the fire‑risk index falls below category 2.
